The Graduate Study Programme (GSP) is the longest-running educational initiative of the United Nations, run by the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG). Each summer it brings a select group of graduate students to the Palais des Nations for an intensive two-week seminar on the work of the United Nations and “International Geneva.”
The programme combines lectures, panel discussions, group work, and visits to international institutions, organised around a yearly theme — the 64th edition (29 June–10 July 2026) focused on “AI and Emerging Technologies: Realities, Risks and Opportunities.” Nearly 3,500 students from more than 120 countries have taken part over 63 years.
Benefits & funding
- No participation fee — the seminar itself is free of charge.
- Two weeks of lectures, presentations, group work, and institutional visits at the Palais des Nations, with firsthand insight into the UN and multilateral diplomacy.
- No scholarship, stipend, or sponsorship is provided. Participants are responsible for all their own costs: travel, visa, accommodation, and meals in Geneva.
Eligibility
- Currently enrolled graduate students: you must have completed a Bachelor’s degree and be enrolled in a graduate programme (Master’s, MBA, PhD, post-doctorate, or similar) at the time of application.
- Aged 22 to 32 at the time of application.
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
- Not employed full time.
- Open to all nationalities; the UN seeks equitable gender and regional representation.

Application process
- 1Applications open on the UNOG GSP webpage (the 64th-edition cycle opened 5 December 2025).
- 2Submit the online application with supporting documents (proof of enrolment, motivation statement, recommendation letters) before the deadline — 20 February 2026, 12 noon Geneva time for the 64th edition.
- 3Selected candidates are notified; results for the 2026 edition were announced in the first week of April.
