Tsinghua University’s Department of Electronic Engineering runs this in-person summer school in Beijing. The 2026 edition focused on AI for urban sustainability through lectures, workshops, laboratory and company visits, cultural activities and team projects.

The 2026 cohort had 40 participants from more than ten countries and regions. That cycle ended on 5 July 2026; the record is retained because the department also ran editions in 2024 and 2025.

Benefits & funding

  • Tuition and shared on-campus accommodation were fully waived for accepted students.
  • Meals during official group activities, transport for official activities and excursions, and entry fees for scheduled sites were covered.
  • Participants paid for other meals, estimated by the host at RMB 30–50 per day, and any independent transport during free time.
  • Participants received an official certificate of completion.

Eligibility

  • Eligible study levels were pre-final-year undergraduate students, research-oriented master’s students and exceptionally talented high-school students with a demonstrated strong interest in STEM.
  • Relevant academic backgrounds included Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Automation, Biotechnology, Physics, Data Science, Mathematics and related disciplines.
  • Partner-institution applicants needed nomination from their home institution.
  • A limited individual route was available to exceptional candidates outside partner institutions who were currently enrolled at an institution and had an outstanding academic background.
  • The official page published no nationality, residency, age or work-experience restriction.

    Nominated candidates who required a visa could request supporting invitation documents from Tsinghua after official nomination.
