The Tsinghua Global SDG Case Competition invites university students worldwide to study a real public-policy situation connected to the Sustainable Development Goals. It is jointly organized by the China Case Center for Public Policy and Management at Tsinghua SPPM and the Tsinghua SDG Institute.

Participants work alone or in teams to build an original English-language case, investigate stakeholders and practical problems, and propose policy insights or solutions. The 2026 cycle runs from registration in June to the final competition in November.

Benefits & funding

  • One first-prize team receives RMB 15,000.
  • Two second-prize teams receive RMB 10,000 each.
  • Three third-prize teams receive RMB 5,000 each.
  • Selected teaching cases may be published in the China Case Bank for Public Policy and Management; accepted authors receive a one-time payment and certificates.
  • Exceptional work may be considered for a collective Springer Nature volume, subject to peer review and revision.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled undergraduate, master’s, or PhD students at universities anywhere in the world.
  • Applicants may enter individually or in teams of up to four; mixed degree levels, disciplines, departments, and universities are allowed.
  • Each student may join only one team, and every team must name a leader.
  • The case must be original, unpublished, free of copyright disputes, and written in English.
  • A participant may register for either the concurrent Chinese competition or this English competition, but not both.

Application process

    Create an account on the official competition platform and register the individual entrant or team.
  2. 2
    Choose a focused public-policy case connected to one or more SDGs and prepare the English proposal using the official guidelines and layout.
  3. 3
    Submit the registration and proposal through the platform by 2:00 PM Beijing time on July 20, 2026.
  4. 4
    First-round winners conduct the case study and submit the full analysis report by 2:00 PM Beijing time on September 22, 2026.
  5. 5
    Finalists present their work and answer judges’ questions at the final competition.
