The Thai Visiting Scholarship sends senior Thai academics to the United States to lecture, carry out research, or run an academic project with a U.S. partner institution. It is administered by the Thailand-U.S. Educational Foundation, the binational body set up in 1950 that runs Fulbright exchange in Thailand.
Up to three grants are awarded each year, each running three to six months and starting in September. Applicants arrange their own U.S. host institution and must be released on leave by the Thai university or research institution they work for.
The grant is framed as an exchange rather than a study award. Recipients are expected to build lasting links between their home institution and their U.S. host, and to act as a cultural ambassador for Thailand while abroad.

Application process
- 1Identify a U.S. university or research institution and obtain an official letter of invitation from the intended host.
- 2Prepare a CV, a personal statement of no more than two pages, a research proposal of no more than five pages, official diplomas and transcripts, a valid passport or Thai national ID, and three letters of recommendation.
- 3Submit the application to Fulbright Thailand during the application period, which runs from June to September.
- 4Attend an interview in October if shortlisted; results are announced in November.
- 5Confirm the exact closing date for the current cycle with the program office at tvs@fulbrightthai.org, because each cycle’s announcement page is removed from the site once that cycle closes.
