Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) Scholarships for International Graduate Students

Benefits & funding

• Admission scholarship (humanities, social sciences, arts departments): 100%, 70%, 50%, 25% or 10% of the admission fee and first-semester tuition, assigned by the result of the admissions evaluation.
• Merit scholarship from the second semester onward, based on the previous semester’s GPA with no failed grade: 4.5 and above brings a 50% tuition waiver, 4.2 to 4.5 brings 30%, and 3.8 to 4.2 brings 20%.
• STEM scholarship (natural sciences, engineering, medical fields): the amount follows each department’s own evaluation and reaches up to 100% of tuition.
• STEM entrants also receive a settlement allowance of 600,000 KRW after admission, and doctoral students receive additional awards for semesters enrolled in research.
• Graduate school-affiliated scholarship: partial tuition, including the admission fee, for outstanding SKKU graduates continuing into the General Graduate School.
• Awards continue through the degree rather than for one term only; STEM support requires the professor’s recommendation to be renewed each year.

Eligibility

• Open to applicants of any nationality other than Korean: the applicant and both parents hold foreign citizenship, or the applicant completed the entire education outside Korea. Applicants with North Korean refugee status are also admitted through this track.
• Master’s applicants hold or expect to receive a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification; doctoral applicants hold or expect to receive a master’s degree or equivalent qualification.
• Degrees earned abroad must come from an institution listed in the UNESCO International Association of Universities database.
• Language proficiency is set by the department: a TOPIK score for Korean-taught study, or TOEFL iBT 71 or IELTS 5.5 and above for English-taught study, or a departmental certification.
• Applicants to the natural sciences, engineering and medical fields contact a prospective supervisor before applying; the scholarship there depends on that professor’s recommendation.
• The admission scholarship is limited to the humanities, social sciences and arts departments; the merit scholarship applies to enrolled international students from their second semester.
• No age limit, gender requirement, work-experience minimum or country list applies.

Application process

   Choose a department and read the application guide for the round on the graduate notice board; applicants in the natural sciences, engineering and medical fields contact a prospective supervisor first.

   Apply online through the jinhakapply admissions portal within the round’s window and upload the scanned documents; applications cannot be changed or withdrawn once submitted.

   Submit the nationality evidence, which includes colour copies of the applicant’s and both parents’ passports and a family relationship certificate issued in English or Korean.

   Submit degree certificates and transcripts, plus the language score or departmental certification the department requires.

   Attend the interview or written test where the department holds one.

   Check the results announcement; the admission and STEM scholarships are decided with the admission result, so no separate scholarship application is filed.
