The Scholarship Scheme at Stockholm University is the university’s own tuition waiver for international master’s students. It is open to citizens of countries outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland who are required to pay tuition fees and who are admitted to a master’s programme in the first (international) admission round.
The award covers the whole tuition fee of the programme, while recipients finance their own living costs in Stockholm. Selection is based on the academic merits of the applicants, with priority given to students who list Stockholm University as their first choice on universityadmissions.se. There is no separate up-front application: the university sends an electronic scholarship form to eligible admitted students once the master’s selection results are published.
Benefits & funding
- Covers the whole tuition fee of the master’s programme the student is admitted to.
- Tuition at Stockholm University is SEK 90,000 per academic year for humanities, social sciences and law, and SEK 140,000 per academic year for the sciences. Some programmes fall between these amounts, and collaborative programmes may cost more.
- Living costs are not covered. Stockholm University advises budgeting at least SEK 11,214 per month.
- The admission application at universityadmissions.se carries a separate application fee of SEK 900 per semester application.

Application process
- 1Apply to a master’s programme at Stockholm University through universityadmissions.se in the first (international) admission round. For the autumn 2026 intake this round opened on 16 October 2025 and closed on 15 January 2026.
- 2Pay the SEK 900 application fee and upload all supporting documents by the document deadline in early February.
- 3Wait for the master’s selection results, published in late March.
- 4Admitted fee-paying students receive an electronic scholarship application form at the email address listed on their University Admissions account.
- 5Return the scholarship form by 30 March.
- 6Scholarship results are announced by the end of April. The formal tuition fee payment deadline follows on 15 May.
