The SI Scholarship Pioneering Women in STEM is run by the Swedish Institute. It supports women from ten eligible countries to complete selected full-time, English-taught STEM master’s programmes at Swedish universities.

The scholarship combines degree funding with professional and alumni networks. Its stated focus is on applicants who can use STEM knowledge, leadership and action to strengthen their communities.

Benefits & funding

  • Full tuition fees, paid directly by the Swedish Institute to the university each semester.
  • SEK 12,000 per month for living expenses throughout the study period.
  • A one-time SEK 15,000 travel grant; this is not available to recipients already living in Sweden.
  • Membership in the SI Network for Global Professionals during the scholarship and the Sweden Alumni Network afterwards.

Eligibility

  • Be a woman and a citizen of Bangladesh, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Nigeria, the Philippines, Rwanda, South Africa, Thailand or Vietnam.
  • Apply in the first admissions round to an eligible full-time, one- or two-year STEM master’s programme in Sweden and meet its admission requirements.
  • Be liable to pay tuition fees through University Admissions.
  • Have documented work and leadership experience; the accessible official sources do not state a minimum number of years.
  • Have neither previously received an SI scholarship for studies nor earned a Swedish degree.

Application process

    Apply through University Admissions to all eligible Swedish master’s programmes you wish to pursue.

    Create or access an account in the SI Scholarships portal.

    Add every eligible master’s programme from your University Admissions application to the SI application and submit one scholarship application.

    If your application qualifies for Pioneering Women in STEM, it is automatically considered for this scholarship.

    Check the University Admissions result, then the Swedish Institute’s scholarship result and offer email.
