The Walter H. Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center (APARC) at Stanford University offers two postdoctoral positions each year to junior scholars working on contemporary Asia.
Fellows spend 10 months at Stanford on research and writing about political, economic or social change in Northeast, Southeast or South Asia, or on the region’s international relations and political economy. They present in Center seminars and join its publication program.
Benefits & funding
- A 10-month salaried appointment based on an annual rate of US$83,000, prorated.
- Up to US$3,000 for research expenses.
- Duty: residence at Stanford for the whole appointment, with participation in Center activities.
Eligibility
- Recent PhDs only: no more than three years past the doctorate when the fellowship starts.
- Dissertation submitted and approved for conferral by June 30, 2027; certification of completion and conferral due by August 31, 2027 (the page’s overview paragraph instead asks for conferral and certification by June 30, 2027).
- Research must concern contemporary Asia within the Center’s focus areas.
- No nationality or residence restriction is stated.
