SECAI Scholarships for Master and Diplom Students in AI

Funding

Partial / Stipend

Program dates

TBA

The School of Embedded Composite AI (SECAI) — a joint graduate school of TU Dresden and Leipzig University in Germany — awards merit-based scholarships to particularly qualified Master’s (M.Sc.) and advanced Diplom students whose studies focus on artificial intelligence or a closely related field. The scholarship provides a monthly living stipend rather than tuition support, and also aims to strengthen internationalisation and diversity across the two universities’ AI teaching programmes. Recipients pursue their existing or planned AI studies in Dresden or Leipzig while funded.

Benefits & funding

  • Monthly scholarship rate of EUR 934 for M.Sc. students (daily rate EUR 31 for incomplete months).
  • Foreign students staying more than six months may receive a monthly family allowance: EUR 276 for an accompanying spouse; EUR 219 for the first and second child, EUR 225 for the third, EUR 250 for each further child.
  • Short visits of up to 22 days by foreign students are funded at EUR 42 per day.
  • Funded for the remaining duration of the M.Sc./Diplom studies per the model study plan (Regelstudienzeit); shorter terms possible, extensions on request.
  • Does NOT cover tuition/study fees or insurance — recipients pay these themselves. Any gross income above EUR 603 reduces the stipend.

Eligibility

  • Enrolled in (or about to begin) an M.Sc. programme, or a Diplom programme with the first two years (Grundstudium) completed.
  • A student of TU Dresden or Leipzig University, or a visiting student endorsed by a host research group there.
  • Study content, specialisation, or planned project work closely related to SECAI’s AI research areas (eligible programmes include M.Sc. Computer Science, Data Science, Computational Modeling and Simulation, Nanoelectronic Systems, Bioinformatics, Medical Informatics, and other programmes with an AI specialisation).
  • Not receiving other scholarships or educational funding from public or private organisations.
  • Open to all nationalities; international applicants are explicitly welcomed. Women in STEM subjects are particularly encouraged to apply, and applicants’ personal circumstances (disability, care duties, refugee experience) are considered — these are supportive preferences, not requirements.

Application process

  1. 1
Confirm you meet (or will meet by the scholarship start) the eligibility criteria for an AI-related M.Sc./Diplom programme at TU Dresden or Leipzig University.
  2. 2
Prepare a cover letter stating what you are applying for and your motivation, a CV, and official certificates of prior university education (visiting students also add a host endorsement and a description of the planned project).
  3. 3
Submit the application through the online form (Bildungsportal Sachsen) by the call deadline.
  4. 4
Shortlisted candidates are interviewed by at least two reviewers, in person or by video call.
