The Schwarzman Academy Fellowship is a joint initiative of Chatham House and the Stephen A. Schwarzman Education Foundation. It brings a current Schwarzman Scholar to Chatham House in London for ten months to develop a self-designed research project with expert guidance.

The fellow also contributes to Chatham House research and joins its leadership programme. Applications are closed, and the official page still describes the October 2025 to July 2026 fellowship cycle.

Benefits & funding

  • A monthly stipend of £2,565 covers London living costs including accommodation, utilities, food and transport.
  • Chatham House covers relocation travel, accommodation support, visa fees and the UK Immigration Health Surcharge, excluding dental care, optical care and prescriptions.
  • Research expenses for fieldwork, outreach, events and publications are covered.
  • The programme includes leadership workshops, briefings, coaching, media training, optional career mentoring and five years of Chatham House membership after successful completion.

Eligibility

  • Applicants may hold any nationality, but must be current Schwarzman Scholars working towards a Schwarzman Scholars Master’s degree.
  • Candidates need independent research experience and an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification, or equivalent relevant professional training or experience.
  • Relevant experience in the proposed research area, leadership experience or potential, spoken-English proficiency and commitment to Chatham House’s mission are required.
  • The fellowship is full-time and cannot be combined with other work or study.

Application process
