Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development – Phase 2 (SEED-2)

Benefits & funding

• College or undergraduate, four months (one term): $10,200.
• College or undergraduate, eight months (two terms): $15,900.
• Graduate, four months (one term): $10,200.
• Graduate, five to six months: $12,700.
• The award covers visa or study permit fees, airfare by economical routes, health insurance, living costs such as accommodation, utilities and food, ground transport, and books and supplies (computers excluded).
• The Canadian host institution waives tuition for the recipient and receives $500 per recipient towards administration.
• The official page prints these amounts with a dollar sign and does not name the currency.

Eligibility

• Open to citizens of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Vietnam, the Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, the Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu and Mongolia.
• Candidates must be enrolled full time at a post-secondary institution in one of those countries and be paying tuition there at the time of application and for the whole exchange.
• Open to college and undergraduate students and to graduate students at master’s or doctoral level; the stay in Canada must run at least four months.
• The proposed study or research must contribute to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
• A candidate is not eligible if they hold or have a pending application for Canadian citizenship or permanent residency, already hold another Government of Canada scholarship, are already enrolled in a degree, diploma or certificate program at a Canadian institution, or were funded under the first phase of the program.
• The Canadian host must be a Designated Learning Institution, must waive tuition, and must run every application through its international office; recipients return to their home institution after the exchange.

Application process

   Secure a place at a Canadian host institution, and for graduate candidates a Canadian supervisor willing to sign a letter of invitation.

   The Canadian institution names a program coordinator, opens a Global Affairs Canada Single Sign-On account and registers on MyEduCanada.

   The coordinator completes the online application form for each candidate and uploads the supporting documents, each under 5 MB, in jpg, gif, png, pdf, doc, docx, txt or xlsx format.

   Supporting documents are proof of citizenship, the signed privacy notice statement, a one-page letter of intent from the candidate, proof of full-time enrolment, a one-page letter of support from the home institution, and for graduate candidates the supervisor’s letter of invitation.

   The institution submits the applications with the signed declaration before the deadline and emails its ranking of its own candidates, by MyEduCanada application number, to the program address given on the official page.

   Results are announced in the spring, and recipients travel to Canada inside the arrival window set for the cycle.
