The University of Basel scholarship fund supports enrolled Bachelor’s and Master’s students whose available resources are insufficient. Its purpose is to help recipients complete their studies within a reasonable period instead of withdrawing for financial reasons.

University Social Services advises applicants and provides access to the online request form. The Scholarship Committee makes a discretionary decision after considering the published requirements as a whole.

Benefits & funding

  • Partial scholarships generally range from CHF 200 to 600 per person per month.
  • Semester benchmarks are CHF 1,500, CHF 1,500, CHF 2,000 and CHF 3,000 for a Bachelor’s student’s first through fourth requests, and CHF 3,000, CHF 3,500 and CHF 4,000 for a Master’s student’s first through third requests.
  • Students completing only a Master’s degree at Basel are normally limited to support equal to the semester fees because funds are limited.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be enrolled at the University of Basel and are generally eligible from the third Bachelor’s semester or the second Master’s semester.
  • Financial need is assessed after reasonable parental support, public scholarships, suitable part-time work and contributions from other foundations or funds have been considered.
  • Applicants must show regular academic progress and expect to finish within the standard study period.
  • Parental-income reference limits are CHF 85,000, or EUR 60,000 for parents abroad, when several siblings are in education, and CHF 75,000, or EUR 50,000 abroad, when one child is in education; wealth, separated parents and justified burdens may also affect the assessment.
  • A maximum of four Bachelor’s requests and three Master’s requests normally applies.
  • Second degrees are generally not supported, and the fund does not finance PhD or postgraduate continuing-education programs.
