Sanctuary Scholarships — Bachelor's Scholarship

The University of Glasgow created the Sanctuary Scholarships for people seeking sanctuary who are already in the United Kingdom. It supports prospective full-time undergraduate and postgraduate taught students who hold a firm offer for 2026/27 entry.

The 2026/27 round is closed, and the university says applications for 2027/28 will open in October 2026. The official page no longer states the previous round’s exact closing date.

Benefits & funding

The 2026/27 round offered 19 scholarships.
Recipients without access to mainstream student finance receive a full tuition-fee waiver for the duration of their programme and £5,000 per year toward study costs.
Undergraduate recipients with refugee status or equivalent who can access student finance receive the £5,000 annual stipend only.
Postgraduate taught Master’s recipients with refugee status or equivalent who can access funding receive the annual stipend plus a partial fee waiver covering the shortfall not met by their Master’s tuition-fee loan.
University accommodation is not included; applicants must fund it themselves or live within commuting distance.
Applicants are also considered for a small number of donor-funded awards that provide the £5,000 stipend only.

Eligibility

Hold a firm conditional or unconditional offer for full-time study at the University of Glasgow for the relevant academic year.
Be currently located in the United Kingdom and have Home or RUK fee status.
Have submitted a UK asylum claim, be appealing a negative asylum decision, or hold Refugee Status, Humanitarian Protection, or Discretionary Leave following an asylum claim.
Applicants admitted through the UK Resettlement Scheme, Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme, Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy, Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme, Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme, or Ukraine Family Scheme may also qualify.
PGDip, PGDE, and part-time programmes are not eligible.
The university lists applicants from almost every country and territory; nationality itself is not treated as a restriction.
