Qingdao University is a public comprehensive university in Qingdao, on the coast of Shandong province in eastern China. The Presidential Scholarship is the university’s own award for international degree-seeking students, run by its International Students Admission Office.
The 2026 cycle funds five outstanding new doctoral students. They study full time on the Qingdao campus and begin in September, and the award runs for the schooling period written into the admission notice.
The university publishes a fresh information sheet each year. Earlier cycles were larger and also funded master’s students. Applications go through Qingdao University’s own international admission system rather than a national scholarship body.
Benefits & funding
- Full tuition for the doctoral program; the university’s published doctoral tuition is 28,700 CNY a year for liberal arts, science and engineering and 32,800 CNY a year for medicine, arts and physical education.
- Free on-campus accommodation, normally a double room.
- Living allowance of 3,500 CNY a month for doctoral students.
- Comprehensive medical insurance, on the terms China’s Ministry of Education sets for international students.
- Funding lasts for the study period stated in the admission notice.
Eligibility
- Non-Chinese citizenship and good health.
- Aged 18 to 40; doctoral applicants must be no older than 40.
- Applying for a September 2026 doctoral place at Qingdao University and meeting the requirements of the university’s 2026 graduate admission prospectus. A master’s degree is the entry qualification for doctoral study.
- All five 2026 awards are allocated to doctoral applicants. The sheet’s age clause still names master’s applicants under 35, so anyone applying at master’s level should confirm with the admission office first.
- Recipients may not hold another Chinese government or university scholarship at the same time.
- Open to every nationality except Chinese; no country list applies.
- Recipients owe the university at least 120 hours of volunteer work a year, supporting international student admission and management.
