The scholarship is established by the Ministry of Education’s Center for Language Education and Cooperation and hosted by Peking University. It supports a full-time, Chinese-taught master’s degree in International Chinese Language Education in Beijing.

The two-year program is intended for future Chinese-language educators. Scholarship continuation is subject to an annual review, normally in the first spring semester.

Eligibility

  • Be a non-Chinese citizen holding a valid ordinary foreign passport; special nationality-document rules apply to people from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan who later acquired foreign nationality.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree from an institution recognized by China’s Ministry of Education; PKU does not accept undergraduate study involving grade-skipping or mid-program transfer.
  • Intend to work in Chinese-language education or a related field, be in good physical and mental health, have no criminal record, and meet PKU’s conduct requirements.
  • Score at least 210 on HSK Level 6, including at least 65 in writing, and at least 60 on intermediate HSKK.
  • PKU states an age guideline of 18–35 as of September 1, 2026; the scholarship provider’s framework allows employed Chinese-language teachers to be up to 45.
  • A post-graduation teaching agreement or comparable proof from an intended employer is preferred, not required.

Application process

    Apply through PKU’s international-student system under the master’s route for this scholarship, or search admission code ICLTS-MTCSOL, then submit and print the PKU application form.
  2. 2
    Apply separately through the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship system and print that application form; arrange nomination through an eligible recommending institution.
  3. 3
    Prepare the two application forms, degree and verification documents, transcript, a roughly 1,500-character personal statement, CV and commitment form, two academic references, HSK and HSKK reports, and passport copy; employed Chinese teachers also submit employment proof and an employer recommendation.

    Deliver the complete paper package to PKU by post or in person before the host-specific deadline.
