Reopens ~Oct 2027

Fulbright Israel, the United States–Israel Educational Foundation, offers this award through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. It plans up to three grants for 2027/28.

Grantees design their own project — library, archival or field research, or work with local professors — hosted by an accredited Israeli higher-education institution they arrange themselves, for one academic year.

Benefits & funding

  • US$28,800 living stipend for the nine-month grant.
  • Airfare reimbursed up to US$1,200.
  • Coursework tuition for fellows who are not PhD candidates (up to US$2,000, per the U.S. award page).
  • Limited accident and medical cover, grantee only.
  • Arrival orientation is mandatory; grantees are asked to give public talks and engage the host community.

Eligibility

  • U.S. citizens; permanent residence is not enough. Dual citizens may apply.
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree by the grant start (final-year undergraduates may apply); extensive professional study or experience may substitute — four years in the creative and performing arts.
  • Not eligible: anyone already living in Israel; anyone who has met all doctoral-degree requirements by the deadline; anyone who lived abroad five or more consecutive years of the six before applying.
  • Not eligible: U.S. State Department staff, staff of its contractors, and their immediate families, until a year after the job ends.
  • Projects involving the West Bank or Gaza are not considered.
