BI Norwegian Business School funds open PhD scholarships for research that fits an advertised BI specialisation rather than a predefined project. Recipients work full time at BI’s Oslo campus and receive supervision from faculty with related research interests.
The programme combines doctoral study and independent research with teaching duties. BI announces these scholarships annually from September, but no current call or exact next opening date was verifiable.
Benefits & funding
- The scholarship covers a four-year full-time appointment with 25% teaching responsibilities, and BI charges no PhD tuition fees.
- The latest published Strategy, Entrepreneurship and Innovation call listed an annual salary of NOK 572,800, subject to adjustment during 2026.
- That call also included automatic membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
Eligibility
- Applicants must hold, or complete by the date specified in the call, a relevant Master of Science or comparable research-oriented degree.
- The qualifying master’s degree must include 15–30 ECTS of thesis work, and the general minimum grade average is B on BI’s five-point scale.
- An MBA alone does not meet BI’s PhD admission requirement.
- BI welcomes applicants worldwide; no nationality or prior-residency restriction is stated.
- Applicants must demonstrate academic and English proficiency; TOEFL, IELTS, GMAT or GRE evidence may be required by a specific announcement.
