MULTICOM — Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in the Data Science of Human Multimodal Communication

Benefits & funding

• Erasmus Mundus scholarships cover participation costs (tuition, insurance, administrative and cultural costs) and add a pro-rata stipend of €1,400 a month for the full duration.
• The costs page plans 10–15 Erasmus Mundus scholarships for each edition; the FAQ page states 15–20. Both state an even split between EU and non-EU students across the first four editions (2026–2031).
• Targeted regional scholarships over the first four editions: Sub-Saharan Africa 5–6, Latin America 4–5, Asia 4–5, Central Asia 1–2, Neighbourhood South 1–2, Middle East 0–1, Pacific and Caribbean 0–1, Western Balkans 2. The 10% same-nationality cap does not apply to these.
• Admitted candidates may be offered a full scholarship, partial funding or no financial aid. There is no separate scholarship application; every valid application is considered.
• Without a scholarship the current fee estimate is €17,000 per year, €34,000 for the full programme, revised yearly.
• The consortium estimates at least €35,000 of personal costs over the two years, covering travel, visas, residence permits, accommodation, health insurance and administration.
• Anyone who has already held an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master scholarship cannot receive a second one.

Eligibility

• Open to applicants of any nationality. No more than six candidates of the same nationality are admitted in any edition, and no more than 10% of the Erasmus Mundus scholarships may go to one nationality across 2026–2030.
• A prior degree from a recognised institution listed in ANABIN: a bachelor of at least 180 ECTS, or a master of at least 60 ECTS. Proof that the degree is expected by registration is accepted.
• At least 30 ECTS of undergraduate training in language, communication and thought studies (linguistics, philosophy of language, psycholinguistics and similar), or a master in those fields, or three or more years of professional work in which language and multimodal communication is central.
• Baseline quantitative training: about 5 ECTS of introductory statistics, other quantitative coursework, or equivalent professional evidence.
• English at C1 for speaking and writing and C2 for oral and written comprehension. Accepted proofs are a recognised test (IELTS 7.5, TOEFL iBT 105, Cambridge Advanced, UNIcert III or equivalent), a BA or MA taught in English at an ANABIN-listed university in an English-speaking country, or five years of full-time professional activity conducted exclusively in English. The IELTS One Skill Retake is accepted when the combined scores meet the minimums.
• No age limit, no work-experience requirement and no prior multimodality coursework required. Candidates with disabilities receive tailored support.

Application process

   Wait for the portal at apply.multicom-em.eu to open on 1 November 2026; applications are closed until then.

   Prepare every document in English or with an official English translation: prior-degree certificate, full transcript of records, proof of English, and a CV of at most two pages.

   Record a motivation video of at most 90 seconds explaining your motivation and your fit for the programme.

   Add the optional one-page statement on language and communication experience if your training or work sits outside a standard degree route.

   Submit before 12 February 2027. Every valid application is automatically considered for Erasmus Mundus funding, so no separate funding form is filed.
