MemBioMed — Erasmus Mundus Joint Master on Biomembranes

Benefits & funding

• Erasmus Mundus scholarship of €1,400 per month for the full 24 months, contributing to travel, visa, installation and living costs.
• Scholarship holders pay no participation fees or other mandatory programme costs, and the French CVEC student contribution of about €105 a year is waived for them.
• Self-funded places cost €508 for the whole programme for European students and €7,882 for non-European students; the figures may move each year with French government guidelines, confirmed in June or July.
• Fees cover registration as a regular student at each host university, teaching and seminars, library and student services, administrative and immigration support, plus health, liability, accident and assistance insurance.
• Two six-week full-time lab rotations in research groups, one in semester 1 and one in semester 2.
• A summer school between semesters 2 and 3, rotating among the consortium partners, with round tables and seminars alongside stakeholders from across Europe.
• A jointly awarded Erasmus Mundus master’s degree in Membrane Biology and Biomedicine.
• Self-funded students can stack home-country or Campus France scholarships, Erasmus+ mobility grants through the partner universities, and France Excellence Europa for EU applicants.

Eligibility

• A Bachelor of Science in biology or an equivalent STEM diploma worth at least 180 ECTS, with advanced courses in cell biology, biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, biophysics or biotechnology.
• Final-year students may apply with current transcripts, and must finish the bachelor by August to enrol.
• Holding a master’s degree already is not a bar to applying.
• Proof of English no older than two years: TOEFL iBT 90 for a test taken before 21 January 2026 or 4.5 for a test taken after 26 January 2026, IELTS 6.5, Cambridge English 176, or at least two years of full-time study taught in English. Duolingo is not accepted.
• The English proof is waived for native speakers and for anyone whose full secondary or bachelor education was taught in English in the USA, UK, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia or Canada.
• Open to applicants of every nationality, as scholarship holders or as self-funded students.
• Anyone who has already held an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master scholarship cannot receive a second one, but may still enrol self-funded.
• No more than 10% of the scholarships in a cohort go to one nationality.

Application process

   Prepare certified English translations of the bachelor transcripts and diploma, a Europass-format CV carrying the cumulative GPA, a motivation letter of at most 500 words, a recent academic recommendation letter, the English proof and a scan of the passport or national ID.

   Submit the file through the online eMundus platform before the deadline, 23:00 Paris time.

   Stage 1: the consortium checks eligibility.

   Stage 2: three Local Academic Coordinators from three different full-partner universities score the file out of 100 — academic achievement 40, CV 30, cover letter 20, recommendation letters 10; 75 points is the bar for an interview.

   Stage 3: an interview on communication, motivation, academic background and interpersonal skills.

   Scholarships go to the top-ranked applicants in April, once the interviews are over; admitted students then send in their documents between April and June.
