University of Eastern Finland (coordinator) with AgroParisTech, University of Freiburg, University of Lleida, BOKU University, Transilvania University of Brașov & Wageningen University

Application Deadline

January 13, 2027

MSc European Forestry is a two-year, 120 ECTS course-based joint master run by seven European universities and coordinated by the University of Eastern Finland. The partners are AgroParisTech in France, the University of Freiburg in Germany, the University of Lleida in Spain, BOKU University in Austria, Transilvania University of Brașov in Romania and Wageningen University in the Netherlands.

The first year runs in Joensuu, Finland, starting in early August. After the spring courses end on 30 April, the cohort travels on the European Forestry field course across partner countries, and each student then completes a two-month Applied Period internship in a forest company or institution.

The second year is spent at one of the six partner universities, chosen in January-February of the first year. Graduates receive a Master of Science (Agriculture and Forestry) from the University of Eastern Finland and a Master of Science from the second-year host, or a joint degree from the two.

Benefits & funding

  • EMJM scholarships are awarded competitively and cover participation costs — consortium fees and full insurance — plus €1,400 a month for a maximum of 24 months.
  • The total scholarship amount is the same for EU/EEA and non-EU/EEA students, and every application is considered for it automatically; there is no separate scholarship form.
  • Citizens of EU/EEA countries and Switzerland pay no consortium fee at all.
  • Non-EU/EEA students without a scholarship pay a consortium fee of €9,000 per year from the August 2026 intake onward, payable each semester in advance.
  • Programme fee waivers for non-EU/EEA applicants: 75% for candidates from an MSc EF partner institution and 50% for the rest, for a maximum of 24 months.
  • Two costs sit outside the consortium fee: Student Union membership at €73.00 for the 2026-2027 academic year and the Kela student healthcare fee at €35.35 per term.

Eligibility

  • Open to applicants of any nationality, with no residency, age or work-experience requirement.
  • A Bachelor’s or higher degree in forestry or a related field, equal to at least three years of full-time academic study at an internationally recognised institution; degrees from universities of applied sciences are accepted.
  • Applicants still finishing that degree may apply, but must send certified proof of completion by 30 July 2027 or lose the study right.
  • English proof: IELTS Academic 7.0 overall with 6.0 in speaking and writing; TOEFL iBT 95 overall with 22 in writing and 23 in speaking for tests before 21 January 2026, or 5 overall with 4.5 in writing and speaking from that date; Cambridge C1 Advanced at grade C or 180 with 162 in writing; Cambridge C2 Proficiency at a result corresponding to C1.
  • Language tests must be taken from 2 December 2024 onward, and TOEFL and IELTS certificates are valid for two years.
  • The test is waived for a Bachelor’s or higher degree taught in English at an institution in the EU/EEA, Singapore or South Africa, and for a degree from Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK or the USA taught at least 50% in English; online or offshore campus study does not qualify.
