The LiU International Scholarship is Linköping University’s merit award for fee-paying international students starting a master’s programme on its campuses in Linköping, Norrköping or Stockholm, Sweden.
It cuts tuition rather than paying a stipend. Only students admitted in the first round to a LiU programme they ranked first can apply, in a short window after results come out; the 2027 window opens in early April.
Benefits & funding
- A tuition fee waiver, normally 50%; waivers come in 25%, 50%, 75% or 100% tiers, and LiU sets the number and percentage each year.
- Kept for year two only if you pass at least 75% of first-year credits by 1 July.
- No living costs (LiU estimates about SEK 10,000 a month); any remaining fee is due by the payment deadline.
- Rescinded if you win a Swedish Institute scholarship or lack a residence permit in time.
Eligibility
- Citizens of countries outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland who must pay tuition fees; some types of Swedish residency exempt you from fees, and so from the award.
- Applied in the first admission round by its deadline, with all documents on time.
- Ranked a LiU master’s programme first (of four) and admitted to it in the first selection results.
- GPA of 3.5/4.0 or higher, a first or high second class degree, or an equivalent average (e.g. 8.0/10 CGPA); applications below this are not considered.
- Final-year bachelor’s students may be admitted but must upload their degree certificate later.
Application process
- 1Apply to LiU master’s programmes at universityadmissions.se in the first round, ranking LiU first; the SEK 900 application fee applies.
- 2On results day eligible admitted students are invited to apply (26–30 March in 2026); no extra documents are needed.
- 3Recipients are published as a PDF list (10 April in 2026).
