The Letje Lips Amsterdam Merit Scholarship (LLAMS) is run by the Graduate School of Humanities at the University of Amsterdam (UvA). It supports students from outside the EU/EEA, from a non-privileged background, who come to Amsterdam for a one-year English-taught Humanities master’s.

It looks for applicants passionate about a just, inclusive and multicultural world. The master’s and the scholarship applications are judged by separate committees.

Benefits & funding

  • 2027–28: four tuition fee awards of €23,500 each, and one full-ride award of €40,000.
  • The 2027–28 non-EEA fee for a one-year Humanities master’s is €25,900 (tuition fees page), so a tuition award leaves part of the fee unpaid.
  • No award covers the full cost of study and stay; tuition award holders fund the rest themselves.
  • Housing and immigration fees are paid before arrival, around May–June.

Eligibility

  • A non-EU/EEA nationality (every eligible country is listed in the record), and not eligible for the lower statutory fee, which EU/EEA, Swiss and Surinamese nationals and holders of certain Dutch residence permits can pay.
  • A first-time student at a Dutch university or university of applied sciences: current pre-master’s students and past exchange students at a Dutch university are excluded.
  • A complete application to a one-year, non-selective English-taught master’s at the school; Research and Dual Master’s are excluded.
  • Awarded only on (conditional) admission; final-year bachelor’s students qualify if they graduate before 1 September.
  • No other scholarship alongside the LLAMS.
  • Able to meet visa rules and to enrol full-time by 31 August 2027.

  1. 1
Submit a complete master’s application in SIS, with proof of English, by 15 January 2027, 23:59 CET, and indicate there that you want the LLAMS.
