LASR Labs is a technical AI safety research programme focused on concrete threat models related to loss of control from advanced AI. The Winter 2027 cohort runs full-time and mainly in person in London from 11 January to 9 April 2027.

Participants work in teams of three or four under an experienced supervisor, first comparing possible projects and then taking one from proposal through experiments to a paper and blog post. LASR Labs runs three cohorts per year and is supported by Arcadia Impact, with grant support from Coefficient Giving.

  • Each participant receives a £15,000 stipend intended to cover living expenses in London.
  • LASR Labs also provides food, office space and travel.
  • Teams receive regular supervision, research-planning support, talks, a careers fair and visits to organisations including Google DeepMind and the UK AI Security Institute.

Eligibility

  • Applicants should bring machine-learning engineering experience and strong quantitative skills.
  • LASR looks for research ability under uncertainty, impact-oriented project reasoning and clear communication of experimental results and implications.
  • There is no stated minimum experience or degree requirement; examples of strong participants range from an undergraduate to a PhD student and an experienced engineer.
  • Applicants of any nationality may apply; LASR provides visa support through the Government Authorised Exchange route for participants who lack an existing UK right to work.
  • The programme is full-time at 40 hours per week and mainly in person; limited remote participation may be considered when the participant can attend in person for most of the programme.
