Konosuke Matsushita Memorial Foundation Scholarship at IUJ

Benefits & funding

• Full reimbursement of the ¥300,000 admission fee after successful enrollment.
• Tuition support totaling ¥3,200,000 per year: KMMF reimburses ¥600,000 and IUJ covers the ¥2,600,000 balance.
• A ¥150,000 monthly stipend, paid in four installments during each academic year.
• A fixed travel allowance equivalent to an economy-class round trip to and from Japan.
• Support runs from October of the first academic year through June of the expected graduation year, for no more than 21 months.
• Recipients must initially pay the admission fee and the ¥600,000 annual tuition portion before KMMF reimburses those amounts after enrollment.

Eligibility

• Applicants must have excellent academic performance and propose research related to international mutual understanding, coexistence between people and nature, or both.
• Applicants must be entering a master’s program in the Fall and hold the bachelor-level preparation required for admission.
• Eligible Asian nationalities are Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Cyprus, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, North Korea, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Syria, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Turkey, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Yemen.
• Eligible African nationalities are Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of the Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
• Eligible Latin American and Caribbean nationalities south of Mexico are Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay and Venezuela.
• Recipients must maintain Student residence status and live in Japan throughout the support period; online study from overseas is not eligible.
• Applicants must need financial support, receive no other organizational scholarship, and receive no company or organizational salary or reward.
• Recipients must follow KMMF rules, attend its official events and submit required reports. Ordinary paid work is prohibited; TA, RA or internship activity requires prior consultation, and paid internships longer than two weeks are generally not allowed.
• Japanese is not required, but ability around JLPT N3 is preferred.

Application process

   Apply to an IUJ master’s degree program through the IUJ Online Application and complete the scholarship section.

   Submit every degree and scholarship response by the deadline for the applicant’s IUJ admissions route.

   Complete IUJ admissions screening; IUJ may nominate successful candidates whose profiles meet KMMF requirements.

   Await the foundation’s final scholarship decision communicated through IUJ.

Program timeline

1. December 10, 2025

   First international-applicant deadline for the 2026 intake.

2. February 12, 2026

   Second international-applicant deadline for the 2026 intake.

3. April 15, 2026

   Final international-applicant deadline for the 2026 intake.

4. May 28, 2026

   Final Japan-resident applicant deadline for the 2026 intake.

5. September 2026

   IUJ expects applications for September 2027 admission to open; no exact opening day is published.

6. Latest cycle’s scholarship period, capped at 21 months.
