The IOE – Aziz Foundation Scholarships support eligible master’s study at UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society. UCL and the Aziz Foundation run the partnership, while applications are made through the Foundation.
The latest Foundation cycle, for 2026–27 study, is closed. The scheme supports emerging leaders seeking career progression and social impact for British Muslim communities and wider society.
Benefits & funding
- The UCL page’s last specified partnership cycle offered three awards covering full tuition fees for 2025–26.
- The Foundation’s 2026–27 scheme covered tuition fees only, generally up to 100%; it did not cover maintenance, and higher-cost courses could receive partial fee support.
- Awardees must join the Foundation’s alumni support programme and complete widening-participation, volunteering, or post-graduation mentoring activity.
Eligibility
- Qualify for UK Home-fee status.
- Apply for an eligible campus-based or online master’s course at UCL IOE; the Foundation excludes specified subject areas and does not fund PhDs, undergraduate degrees, PGCEs, LPCs, or PG Dips.
- Current undergraduate students may apply; those without relevant work experience should evidence engagement in student societies, student unions, student-led campaigns, or widening-participation work.
- Be active in a Muslim community, understand issues affecting British Muslim communities, and show a sustained commitment to community or societal development in Britain.
- Explain how the proposed course will strengthen advocacy, public representation, community service, or social development.
- Demonstrate inability to self-fund all or part of the tuition fees and complete the Foundation’s means and Zakat-eligibility assessment.

Application process
- 1Apply to an eligible UCL IOE master’s course; the Foundation allows the course and scholarship applications to proceed simultaneously.
- 2Submit one online Aziz Foundation application for the year, including education, work experience, financial information, a statement of no more than 1,000 words, and two referees.
- 3If shortlisted, attend an interview of about 30 minutes covering community challenges, intended change, personal qualities, and financial barriers.
- 4Complete a second-stage assessment if requested, then await the award decision.
