International Master on Wine Tourism Transitions and Innovations (WINTOUR)

Master's ScholarshipSpain · Tarragona

Universitat Rovira i Virgili (coordinator) with Université de Bordeaux & Universidade do Porto

Application Deadline

December 17, 2026

WINTOUR is a two-year Erasmus Mundus joint master in wine tourism, coordinated by Universitat Rovira i Virgili in Tarragona, Spain, with Université de Bordeaux in France and Universidade do Porto in Portugal. All three universities sit in UNESCO World Heritage wine regions.

The degree is 120 ECTS over four semesters. Semester 1 in Tarragona covers wine tourism and marketing, semester 2 in Bordeaux covers winemaking and heritage, semester 3 in Porto covers specialised wine tourism subjects, and semester 4 is a four-month professional internship with the master thesis. Three internships are compulsory: four weeks in wine tourism organisations in June, four weeks in a winery during the August-September harvest, and the final four-month placement of at least 600 hours.

Graduates receive a multiple degree — a joint diploma issued by Universitat Rovira i Virgili on behalf of the consortium, plus national master degrees from Bordeaux and Porto. The programme is funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union, and the 2027-2029 intake is the last one with Erasmus Mundus scholarships in the current funding cycle.

Benefits & funding

  • Erasmus Mundus scholarship: €1,400 a month for the length of the programme, up to 24 months, transferred monthly to the student’s Spanish bank account.
  • The scholarship also waives the participation fee in full, including insurance and other mandatory costs.
  • Between 15 and 19 scholarships per edition across the 2024-2029 funding period.
  • Self-funded places cost €6,000 a year for nationals of EU member states and programme-associated countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, North Macedonia, Serbia, Türkiye) and €8,000 a year for all other nationalities.
  • The fee covers registration at the three host universities, insurance, local-language courses in the first three semesters, welcome activities, field trips and the issuing of the diploma; living costs, travel and translation services are not included.
  • Self-funded students pay a €400 deposit to secure the place, then the balance in four instalments across the two years.
  • Second-call consortium grants waive 50% of the fee: one grant of €3,000 a year for EU and associated-country candidates, one of €4,000 a year for other nationalities, and one further grant in either category.
  • A marketing support grant of €3,752 gross is paid in 8 monthly instalments, awarded on academic performance and a social media proposal.
  • Universidade do Porto offers students from CPLP countries a discount of €1,000-1,500 in the second year.

Eligibility

  • Open to applicants of any nationality; EU and non-EU citizens both apply and choose their fee category in the form.
  • A completed university bachelor degree of at least three years and 180 ECTS, preferably in social sciences, natural sciences or humanities.
  • Final-year students may apply if the diploma or a completion certificate can be supplied before the programme starts, which varies by host university; applicants from non-EU universities must have already finished their studies and provide transcripts.
  • English at B2 or above on the CEFR scale is mandatory, evidenced by Cambridge, IELTS Academic, TOEFL (iBT, pBT, Home Edition or Essentials; not ITP), PTE or APTIS, issued within the last two years.
  • The certificate is waived for nationals of majority English-speaking countries, for graduates of English-medium universities in the USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand or South Africa, for applicants with at least one year of university study taught in English in those countries, and for graduates in English language or translation.
  • No age limit, and prior professional experience is not required; relevant academic background or demonstrated motivation in wine tourism, culture or business strengthens an application.
  • Anyone who has already held an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master scholarship cannot receive a second one, but may enrol as a self-funded student.
  • No more than 10% of an edition’s scholarships may go to candidates of the same nationality.
