Intermediate Research Fellowships – Clinical, Public Health (CPHI) is the mid-career clinical and public-health fellowship of DBT/Wellcome Trust India Alliance, funded by India’s Department of Biotechnology and Wellcome under Phase III (2025–2031).
Fellows lead their own clinical or public-health research programme at a not-for-profit host institution in India. The official scheme page gives only a one-line description; detailed terms come with each call’s guidelines.
Benefits & funding
- Five years of support; India’s science portal lists Phase III Intermediate Fellowships at up to ₹4.5 crore.
- Salary support set by India Alliance; where the host already pays a salary, India Alliance tops it up to that level, plus research funds and money for collaborative visits.
- Fellows may not hold any other national or international fellowship at the same time.
Eligibility
- Clinicians and public-health researchers with an MD, MS, MPH or equivalent; a PhD is not required, but research experience must suit the scheme.
- Experience: India’s science portal lists 4–15 years post-PhD for 2026 Intermediate Fellowships; India Alliance’s overview page allows final-year MD/MS/MPH candidates up to 15 years of research experience.
- No age or nationality restriction; applicants need not live in India when applying but must build their research career in India.
- A not-for-profit host institution in India must administer the award, with a Sponsor guaranteeing space and resources; a salaried post there is not required.
- One scheme at a time; no reapplying to this scheme once a full application has been reviewed.
