Official Page

InterMaths is a two-year, full-time Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in mathematical modelling and simulation. The five-university InterMaths Consortium coordinates study across L’Aquila, Hamburg or Vienna, followed by a second-year specialization in L’Aquila, Hamburg, Vienna, Barcelona or Nice.

The curriculum connects applied mathematics with biomedical science, industrial engineering, imaging, logistics and natural-disaster modelling. The most recent scholarship cycle was for the September 2026 intake and is now closed.

Benefits & funding

  • The 2026 edition offered 20 Erasmus Mundus scholarships.
  • Each scholarship paid €1,400 per month for the two-year programme, a total contribution of €33,600.
  • Scholarship holders paid no tuition, registration or other mandatory participation costs.
  • Full insurance coverage was included.
  • Accommodation, living, travel, equipment and other personal expenses remained the student’s responsibility and were expected to be met from the allowance.

Eligibility

  • Applicants could be of any nationality, with no residency restriction.
  • Applicants needed a bachelor’s degree, or equivalent 180-ECTS qualification, in mathematics, applied mathematics, physics, engineering or a similar field with a strong mathematical background. Final-year students could apply but had to obtain the required undergraduate qualification by 15 August 2026 for the scholarship route.
  • English proficiency of at least CEFR B2 was required. Accepted examples included IELTS Academic 6.0, TOEFL iBT 80, PTE Academic 56 or C1 Advanced 169; applicants with qualifying English-medium studies could provide evidence of that instruction instead.
  • There was no age limit and no stated work-experience requirement.
  • A previous EMJM scholarship made a candidate ineligible for another EMJM scholarship, although admission without that scholarship remained possible. A previous EMJMD scholarship did not create the same bar.
