Official Page

The Interledger Fellowship is a 12-month program run by the Interledger Foundation for people working to widen access to digital financial systems for underserved populations. It supports emerging scholars, engineers, journalists, activists, artists, and practitioners who research, advocate for, or build solutions around financial access, inclusion, and health. Fellows pursue self-designed projects across the Foundation’s focus areas — open payments, interoperability, digital access, and digital financial inclusion — while receiving funding, a working budget, and connection to the wider Interledger community. The 2026 round is a pilot that builds on the Foundation’s Ambassadors program, active since 2020.

Benefits & funding

  • USD 92,000 per grant cycle, split into a USD 72,000 grant (personal compensation) and a USD 20,000 working budget for research, development, organizing, and advocacy (budget expenses are approved before release).
  • Participation in Interledger Foundation-organized events in the fellow’s own locale.
  • Access to the Interledger community and ecosystem of builders and advocates.
  • Term: 12 months, starting 1 September 2026.

Eligibility

  • Open worldwide; the Foundation cannot fund proposals in countries under US government sanctions.
  • Must be 18 or older.
  • No university degree required, but applicants must show evidence of professional experience directly related to their proposal.
  • Must hold work authorization in the country of residency (or wherever the fellowship will be carried out).
  • Fluency in English — the full application and program are conducted in English.
  • Minimum commitment of 32 hours per week (0.8 full-time equivalent); scheduling is flexible around the proposal.
