IEEE Frances B. Hugle Scholarship — Bachelor's Scholarship

The IEEE Frances B. Hugle Scholarship honors engineer and inventor Frances B. Hugle. IEEE Women in Engineering administers the scholarship with support from the IEEE Foundation’s Frances B. Hugle Scholarship Fund.

It supports full-time undergraduate engineering students at United States institutions after they have completed two years of study. The current submission window is closed, and IEEE WIE has not published the next opening date.

Benefits & funding

Up to two recipients are selected annually.
Each recipient receives a certificate and a one-time US$2,500 monetary award.

Eligibility

Be an IEEE Student Member attending a university or college in the United States.
Be enrolled full time in an ABET-accredited undergraduate engineering program.
Have completed two years of undergraduate study.
Provide evidence of at least a 3.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
Previous applicants may apply again, but each person may receive the scholarship only once.
Self-nominations and nominations by others are accepted.

Application process

Confirm IEEE Student Member status, full-time enrollment, completed study, ABET accreditation, and GPA eligibility.

Use the IEEE Awards and Nominations Portal when the application window opens; either submit a self-nomination or be nominated by another person.

Submit a 1,000-word essay on why you want to enter engineering and a 500-word essay on why you should receive the scholarship.

Provide one academic recommendation and one personal recommendation, together with evidence of the required GPA.
