Hiding in Plain Site is an international curated screening program for short moving-image works that explore or feature public art. Filmmakers, artists, designers, students, creative practitioners, and collectives may submit film, video art, animation, experimental media, XR, or original AI-generated or AI-assisted work. Selected works will first screen in Minneapolis during the 32nd International Sculpture Conference, with live, looping, hybrid, or virtual presentation formats also possible.
Benefits & funding
- There is no submission fee.
- Selected filmmakers will receive a modest stipend; the amount will depend on presentation revenue and has not yet been set.
- Artists retain copyright while granting screening permission if selected; promotional use of stills or short excerpts is optional.
Eligibility
- International submissions are accepted from filmmakers, artists, designers, students, creative practitioners, collectives, and emerging or established creators.
- No professional filmmaking background or specified degree is required.
- Standard submissions must run 2–20 minutes; Micro Public Art Shorts may run up to 2 minutes.
- Each creator or team may submit one work, and public art must be meaningfully featured as a subject, setting, character, or backdrop.
- Academic lectures, TED Talks, and television-network-produced stories are not eligible.
