Fulbright Denmark runs this annual visiting-scholar grant for academic exchange between Denmark and the United States. Recipients undertake a self-planned project combining research and teaching at a U.S. university in any academic field.
The 2027/28 cycle covers Fall 2027 and/or Spring 2028 and provides a fixed DKK 200,000 grant. Applications pass through Danish review and final approval by the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board in the United States.

Eligibility
- Applicants must be Danish citizens; permanent residence alone is insufficient, and dual Danish-U.S. citizens and U.S. permanent residents are ineligible.
- Assistant professors, associate professors and professors must be employed by a higher-education institution in the Kingdom of Denmark.
- Postdoctoral scholars may apply without an institutional affiliation but must reside in Denmark.
- Scholar applicants are university faculty with a PhD or equivalent terminal degree, postdoctoral researchers or qualifying senior professionals.
- The proposed U.S. stay must last four to ten months and combine research and teaching; applicants must have strong English proficiency.
- The stay cannot have started before application and must begin in August 2027 or later; conference, summer-school and group travel are not eligible purposes.

Application process
- 1Confirm the citizenship, professional-status, project and timing requirements on the program page.
- 2Arrange a U.S. host affiliation and obtain an official invitation letter covering the proposed grant dates.
- 3Prepare the English-language documents, including a four-page CV, three-to-five-page project proposal, one-to-three-page bibliography, course syllabi, budget form, passport copy and required institutional support.
- 4Register two recommenders and submit through the IIE portal under the “Teaching/Research” category by February 17, 2027 at 12:00 noon CET.
- 5If invited, attend an online interview; Fulbright Denmark makes nominations before final U.S. board approval.
