Benefits & funding

• Standard placements provide a monthly stipend of US$2,831–US$4,300 for 12 months, based on placement location, plus a one-time US$3,000 settling allowance. The stipend may be renewed for a second year if academic performance is satisfactory and the degree remains incomplete.
• IIE provides placement services for applications to no more than five U.S. universities. A possible one-to-three-week U.S. pre-academic program covers room, board, books, and travel allowances.
• The Rice University doctoral partner route provides a US$3,075 monthly stipend, a US$59,784 annual tuition waiver, a US$730 annual fee waiver, individual insurance, a one-time US$85 application-fee waiver for eligible programs, and the US$3,000 settling allowance. Core Rice benefits are renewable for the degree subject to satisfactory progress and continued enrollment.
• The Yale Jackson School M.P.P. partner route provides a US$3,742 monthly stipend, a US$60,600 annual tuition waiver, a US$200 annual student-activity-fee waiver, health coverage, and the US$3,000 settling allowance. Its core benefits may be renewed for a second academic year subject to satisfactory progress and continued enrollment.
• Other funding received during the grant period must be reported, and Fulbright support may be adjusted.

Eligibility

• Applicants must be physically present in Taiwan from August 2026 through July 2027 and must be able to attend an in-person interview at Fulbright Taiwan in Taipei, tentatively scheduled for August 17, 2026.
• Master’s applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree by June 2027 and be ready to enter a U.S. master’s program in fall 2027. Doctoral applicants must hold at least a bachelor’s degree by June 2027 and be ready to enter a U.S. doctoral program in fall 2027; a master’s degree is preferred but not required.
• Applicants cannot be U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents. They are also ineligible if currently studying in the United States, if they have received a Fulbright Student Grant twice, or if they intend to study medicine. Holders of medical degrees may pursue advanced academic study but not internships or residencies; doctoral applicants seeking a JD are ineligible.
• Doctoral applicants should submit TOEFL iBT 100 or IELTS Academic 7.0 and a valid GRE or GMAT score. Master’s applicants should submit TOEFL iBT 80 or IELTS Academic 6.5 and a valid GRE or GMAT score. Applicants without qualifying results may upload proof of tests scheduled by September 30, 2026; the committee may permit later retesting after interview.
• The 12-month grant must begin no earlier than August 1, 2027 and no later than the start of the spring 2028 semester.

Application process

   Create and complete the English-language online Fulbright Foreign Student Program application for Taiwan and select either the master’s or doctoral Graduate Study award.

   Upload the study or research objective, personal statement, English CV, writing sample, score reports or qualifying test appointments, funding statement, passport copy, academic records, and other required materials. Register three recommenders or arrange approved paper recommendations.

   Submit the online application by August 1, 2026. After submission, the form cannot be edited.

   Print the completed application and mail it with the Chinese CV, sealed official English transcripts, English degree certificates, and any paper recommendation letters to Fulbright Taiwan, postmarked by August 1, 2026.

   If invited, attend the in-person Taipei interview and await nomination and final FFSB approval.
