Government of Flanders Master Mind Scholarships

Benefits & funding

• Grant of €10,225 per academic year toward living and study costs, paid again in year two of a 120-ECTS master’s.
• Tuition-fee waiver: the host institution may charge no more than €136.50 a year, the minimum rate for Flemish government-supported students.
• One-year master’s instalments: €4,600 after arrival and registration (or €2,000 before the year starts plus €2,600 on arrival), €4,100 after the first semester, €1,525 on completing the degree.
• The final €1,525 is withheld if the master’s degree is not obtained; leaving the programme partway means refunding part of the scholarship.
• A two-year master’s needs at least 54 ECTS in year one to continue, and year two opens with €6,125 paid before it starts.
• Cannot be combined with another Government of Flanders scholarship, Erasmus+, Erasmus Mundus, BAEF or Fulbright funding.
• A scholar who loses the award must pay the full tuition fee to stay enrolled.

Eligibility

• All nationalities may apply, with the exception of Russian nationals. No age limit is set.
• The study must be a master’s degree programme of 60 ECTS per academic year at one of the listed Flemish host institutions; preparatory, bridging and distance-learning programmes do not qualify.
• Grade point average of 3.5 out of 4.0 on the most recent bachelor’s or master’s degree, converted with the Scholaro tool.
• English proficiency at universities and university-level science institutions: IELTS 7.0, TOEFL 94 or CEFR C1. Schools of arts: IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90 or CEFR B2. Proof must be less than three years old.
• The previous degree cannot have been obtained at a Flemish higher education institution, and someone already enrolled at one cannot apply. Erasmus+ credit mobility in Flanders does not disqualify a candidate, and students in a preparatory programme in the spring before the master’s starts are an exception.
• Only one Flemish institution may nominate a candidate, and at least half of the study credits must be taken at the host institution.
• Places reserved by country in the 2026-2027 call: Japan 3, Mexico 3, Palestine 2, United States 5.
• Participating institutions: KU Leuven, University of Antwerp, Ghent University, Hasselt University, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Antwerp Maritime Academy, AP University of Applied Sciences and Arts, HOGENT, Erasmus Brussels University of Applied Sciences and Arts, KdG, LUCA School of Arts and PXL. An institution outside this list cannot host the scholarship.

Application process

   Check the eligibility criteria and pick a participating Flemish host institution.

   Apply to that institution by its own scholarship deadline. In the 2026-2027 call these ran from 15 January (KU Leuven) to 13 April (Erasmus Brussels), with two institutions asking candidates to contact their international office.

   The institution preselects and may put forward at most 20 candidates to the Flemish Higher Education Council.

   Preselected candidates receive an email inviting them to register in the Mobility-Online tool and complete the file: photo, passport or ID, CV stating the GPA out of 4.0, transcript of records, diploma, English test result or exemption letter, motivation letter in English, and two signed recommendation letters from professors or employers. Documents not in Dutch, French, German or English need a certified translation.

   The host institution validates the file and submits it to the Flemish Higher Education Council before the central deadline, 27 April 2026 for the 2026-2027 call.

   The selection committee ranks the files and awards the scholarships, then candidates are notified.
