The 2026 Global Minority Rights Summer School examined self-determination through minority-rights perspectives. Tom Lantos Institute, Ludovika University of Public Service, the Human Rights Consortium, and the Unrepresented Nations & Peoples Organization organized the fourteenth edition in Budapest.
The six-day program combined lectures, case studies, participant presentations, and discussion of legal, political, cultural, and economic dimensions of self-determination. Around 20–25 participants were expected to learn from academics, practitioners, activists, and policy specialists.
Benefits & funding
- The tuition fee was €200 and partially covered tuition, shared campus accommodation, breakfast, and lunch.
- Ludovika University of Public Service provided shared dormitory accommodation, breakfast, and lunch to all participants; the final gala dinner was also included.
- Participants paid for their other dinners.
- A limited number of scholarships were available: partial scholarships covered the tuition fee, while the more extensive awards covered the tuition fee and travel to Budapest.
Eligibility
- Applications were open to MA and PhD students, public servants, decision-makers, higher-education teachers, journalists, civil-society and minority-rights practitioners, and anyone interested in advanced minority-rights training.
- A strong command of English was required.
- Scholarship applicants needed current interest or work in minority rights, strong motivation to deepen their skills, and plans to use the knowledge and contacts gained.
- Scholarships were intended for applicants with demonstrated financial need who could not self-fund. Scholarship recipients were expected to present a case study or join the panel discussion.
- The organizers gave preference to applicants from minority and Indigenous backgrounds; this was a preference rather than a stated eligibility bar.
- No nationality, residency, age, gender, degree-completion, or minimum-experience restriction was stated on the program page.
