General Entrance Award program

Bachelor's ScholarshipCanada · Halifax

Dalhousie University

Application Deadline

February 15, 2027

The General Entrance Award program is Dalhousie University’s one application for new undergraduates starting in the fall. Completing it puts an applicant in the running for hundreds of scholarships, bursaries and hybrid awards at once.

It is for students coming straight from high school or with no transferable post-secondary study; recipients study in person at Dalhousie in Halifax or Truro, Canada. Named awards that ask for a separate application are not covered.

Benefits & funding

  • Award values run roughly $1,000 to $80,000 (Canadian), counted yearly or over four years depending on the award.
  • An award may be one-time or renewable for up to four years.
  • Funds go to the student account in two equal instalments, mid-August and mid-December; any balance after tuition and fees can be refunded.
  • Payment requires full-time registration in each funded term: at least 9 credit hours for degree students, 6 for technology students.

Eligibility

  • Applying straight from high school, or a mature student with no transferable post-secondary study; transfer students are generally excluded, except Indigenous Black and First Nations students from the Maritimes seeking the FNIB Scholarship.
  • Starting in the fall term.
  • Usually an 80% average across the program’s five required courses, or 26 predicted IB points (not applied to FNIB Scholarships).
  • Domestic and international students are both eligible; financial-aid eligibility is not needed.
  • Gap-year students qualify if they have done no transferable post-secondary study.
