GEMMA Erasmus Mundus Master’s Degree in Women’s and Gender Studies

GEMMA is a 120-ECTS joint master’s in Women’s and Gender Studies coordinated by the University of Granada through a consortium of European universities. Students complete four full-time semesters, beginning at a Home University and undertaking compulsory mobility at a university in another European country.

For the 2026–2028 edition, the available study locations were Granada, Oviedo, Bologna, Vienna, Lodz and Utrecht; the University of York was not available as a Home or Mobility University. Applicants selected a route spanning two institutions and completed a master’s thesis in the fourth semester.

Benefits & funding

The programme provides 120 ECTS over four semesters, including a compulsory mobility semester and a 30-ECTS master’s thesis.
The 2026–2028 call did not include EMJMD scholarships, so students had to secure their own funding.
After the consortium fee waiver, tuition was €2,100 per academic year for European students and €5,500 per academic year for Third Country students; diploma, transcript, travel and living costs were additional.

Eligibility

Applicants needed a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent comprising at least 180 ECTS and three years of study.
Applicants needed proof of the teaching language used at both their selected Home and Mobility universities.
Applicants had to commit to two years of full-time study and a compulsory international mobility route between institutions in two different countries.
Granada–Oviedo and Oviedo–Granada were not permitted routes, and York was unavailable for the 2026–2028 edition.
The published eligibility rules set no nationality or residence restriction; applicants outside the European Union remained responsible for visa requirements.
