Fulbright Specialist connects experienced U.S. academics and professionals with Danish institutions for short, institution-led projects. Fulbright Denmark accepts both named projects developed with a specific specialist and open projects for which it recruits suitable candidates.
Projects may include workshops, workforce or faculty development, curriculum design, co-lecturing, and institutional needs assessments. U.S. applicants first enter the global Specialist Roster and may then be matched with a Danish project during their three-year roster tenure.

- The Danish host institution covers lodging, meals, and transportation within Denmark.
- Each project lasts 14–42 days, including travel days; approved multi-visit projects must remain within the same 42-day total.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be U.S. citizens; U.S. permanent residents who are not citizens are ineligible.
- Applicants need significant professional, academic, or artistic experience in an eligible discipline and must be able to travel abroad for 14–42 days.
- The program recommends at least five years of relevant experience, but does not state this as a mandatory minimum.
- Applicants must not have lived abroad for five or more consecutive years during the six years before applying.
- Applicants and their immediate family members must satisfy the program’s restrictions concerning recent U.S. Department of State employment and recent employment by certain exchange-program contractors.
- Religious workers are ineligible when the proposed work involves pastoral, missionary, or other professional religious activity; previous Specialist Roster members are also subject to the published two-year waiting rules.

Application process
- 1Create an account in the U.S. applicant portal and start a Specialist Roster application.
- 2Complete the eligibility, personal, education, employment, essays, CV, preferences, languages, and references sections.
- 3List three professional references and ensure at least two submit their forms before the target peer-review cycle cutoff.
- 4World Learning checks eligibility, after which a three-person peer panel reviews the completed dossier.
- 5If approved, join the Specialist Roster for three years and become eligible to be matched with open or named projects in Denmark.
- 6Complete project-match and Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board approvals before travel arrangements begin.
