Fulbright Arctic Initiative IV was an 18-month research and cultural-exchange program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and administered by the Institute of International Education. The fourth cohort brought together 20 professionals, practitioners and researchers to address Arctic security through interdisciplinary work.
Participants worked on climate change and Arctic resources, Arctic security and governance, or mental health and well-being. Each scholar joined monthly webinars, thematic group collaboration, three in-person meetings and an individual research exchange; U.S. scholars visited another Arctic country, while scholars from other participating countries visited a U.S. institution.

Eligibility
- Applicants had to be citizens and residents of Canada, the Kingdom of Denmark including Greenland and the Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Sweden or the United States.
- Applicants needed expertise and relevant experience in one of the program’s research areas, active work on a related inquiry, and willingness to use comparative, interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches.
- Early- and mid-career academics, applied researchers and professionals were preferred; a PhD or equivalent terminal or professional degree was preferred rather than required.
- No stated age or gender restriction applied.

- 2U.S. and Russian applicants contact IIE; applicants from the other participating countries contact their home-country Fulbright office.
- 3Submit the online IIE application with biographical, academic and professional background information.
- 4Upload a 3–5-page project statement, a CV or résumé of up to six pages, two recommendation letters and the applicable supplemental materials by the deadline.
