The Foresight Fellowship is a one-year program run by the Foresight Institute, a nonprofit based in San Francisco that backs work on frontier science and technology. It supports early-career scientists, engineers and innovators whose work sits in one of the institute’s focus areas: secure AI, longevity biotechnology, nanotechnology, neurotechnology, space and energy, and existential hope. Fellows stay in their own jobs, labs or startups; the fellowship adds introductions to senior researchers, funders and mentors, invitations to Foresight events, and a platform to share their work. There is no minimum work requirement, and the program is open to applicants anywhere in the world. Applications for the 2027 cohort close on 31 July 2026, and candidates can also be nominated by someone else.

Benefits & funding

  • One-to-one introductions to relevant funders, senior scientists and other mentors.
  • Travel-paid invitation to one Foresight technical workshop and one Vision Weekend conference.
  • Membership in a Foresight seminar group matched to the fellow’s field, with the option to present in a virtual seminar.
  • Priority access to the Foresight AI Nodes in San Francisco and Berlin, physical hubs for researchers working on AI for science and safety.
  • Quarterly career counseling calls held across the fellowship cohorts.
  • Career news shared through Foresight’s newsletter and social channels, and entry to the Fellowship Alumni community at the end of the year.
  • Foresight publishes no stipend, salary or project grant for fellows, and no participation fee.

Eligibility

  • Early-career scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs and innovators with a track record in their field, shown through publications, lab placements or notable projects.
  • Work aligned with one of the six application categories: secure AI, longevity biotechnology, nanotechnology, neurotechnology, space and energy, or existential hope.
  • Open to applicants of any nationality and any country of residence; the application form asks where the applicant is based, without restricting the answer.
  • No degree level, age limit or minimum years of experience is set. Date of birth and gender are optional questions on the application form.

Open to all applicants

No nationality, residency, education, or experience limits are listed.

We only check the criteria we have data for. Always confirm full eligibility on the official page before applying.

Application process

  1. 1
Pick the fellowship category that matches your work and gather your biography, professional links and project links.
  2. 2
Submit the online application form, which asks what you work on and why, how the fellowship would accelerate it, who Foresight could connect you with, and what you would do with a hypothetical 10,000 US dollars toward your project.
  3. 3
Alternatively, ask a colleague to submit the separate nomination form on your behalf. Self-nomination is not accepted and individual submissions are preferred.
  4. 4
Applications and nominations for the 2027 cohort must be in by 31 July 2026. Foresight reviews them and selected fellows join the cohort for one year.
