Foreign Student Scholarship Program

Benefits & funding

• Full academic costs, including application or entrance examination fees, admission or enrollment fees, tuition, facility fees, and other approved academic charges.
• Economy-class return travel from a major city in the applicant’s country to Tokyo, plus actual onward travel costs to the destination campus.
• A monthly scholarship of ¥160,000 for up to two years and eight months, including any research-student period.
• A ¥60,000 settling-in allowance, up to ¥72,000 for pre-departure Japanese study, and up to ¥200,000 per year for conference participation or field research.
• Approved transport and accommodation for Foundation events and certain other approved expenses, such as a student commuter pass.
• Passport and visa costs, taxes, and accommodation in Japan are the recipient’s responsibility.

Eligibility

• Be a citizen of Indonesia, Australia, or the United Arab Emirates and be under 30 on the 31 October 2026 application deadline.
• Hold or expect to hold a bachelor’s degree from a prestigious university in the country of nationality, with at least 16 years of formal education or an equivalent academic background.
• Meet the applicable GPA threshold: at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the Indonesian and UAE routes, or at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or 5.25 on a 7.0 scale for the Australian route.
• For the Indonesian route, hold or expect a bachelor’s degree in a STEM field and plan a STEM master’s degree; the Australian and UAE routes accept any field.
• Obtain permission from the relevant institution, university, or employer to accept the scholarship, commit to strengthening relations with Japan, and not already hold another scholarship for study in Japan; concurrent applications are allowed.
• Indonesian and UAE applicants must submit an official TOEFL iBT or IELTS result taken after October 2024; Japanese-language certification is optional for all routes.

Application process

   Choose a Japanese graduate school or laboratory, contact the prospective supervisor, and obtain a signed Letter of Acceptance on official letterhead.

   Complete the 2027 form in typed English and prepare the official transcript, recommendation, graduation or expected-graduation certificate, Letter of Acceptance, CV, required language score, and photo.

   Email the documents to isf-foundation@inpex.com by 23:59 Tokyo time on 31 October 2026 with the subject “2027 Scholarship Application (Name)”; keep each email at or below 20 MB, split larger submissions, and do not use cloud-storage links.

   Contact the Foundation if no acknowledgment email arrives, then complete document screening and an online or in-person interview if shortlisted.
