The Florence Nightingale Foundation, a UK nursing and midwifery leadership charity, runs this 18-month scholarship for senior nurses and midwives aiming to lead at board, system and national level.
Scholars receive psychometric profiling, one-to-one coaching and a mentor, attend two residentials in London, and deliver their own quality improvement project. Applications for the 2027–28 cohort are open until 15 November 2026.
Benefits & funding
- No cost to the scholar: places are sponsored; UK applicants need a £1,500 employer contribution.
- A limited number of fully sponsored places for applicants outside the UK, with no employer contribution.
- Accommodation and meals during the residentials are included; FNF’s general FAQ says travel is not.
- Commitment: 9 residential days in May 2027 and 7 in October 2028, plus virtual check-ins.
Eligibility
- Registered nurse or midwife with the NMC, or an equivalent regulator outside the UK.
- Working at NHS Agenda for Change Band 8d or above, or an equivalent role in the independent sector, military or internationally (the 2026–27 cycle accepted Band 7).
- Executive or ministerial support and sign-off; UK applicants also need the £1,500 employer contribution.
- No nationality, residence, age or degree requirement is stated.
