The First Nations and Indigenous Black Student (FNIB) Scholarships are Dalhousie University entrance awards for new undergraduates from these communities in Atlantic Canada.

Benefits & funding

  • C$32,000: C$8,000 a year, renewable for 4 years (current awards page). Dal’s Black and Indigenous student support pages still list C$3,000 a year, up to C$12,000.
  • Paid to the student account in mid-August and mid-December; full-time registration is required each funded term.

Eligibility

  • Indigenous Black or First Nations students from Atlantic Canada with good academic standing and financial need (awards page); the Indigenous support page says the Maritime provinces, and the Black support page also names Inuit and Métis students.
  • The admissions average is not considered for FNIB.
  • Entering from high school or as a mature student without transferable post-secondary study; FNIB students from the Maritimes may also apply as transfer students.
  • Starting in the fall term.
