The Ernst Mach Grant for studying at an Austrian University of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschule) is administered by OeAD-GmbH and financed by Austria’s Federal Ministry of Women, Science and Research (BMFWF).
Bachelor’s and Master’s students from non-European universities spend one or two semesters (4–10 months) as exchange students or free movers at an Austrian Fachhochschule. It funds a study stay, not a full degree; the current call covers the 2027/28 academic year.
Benefits & funding
- A monthly scholarship for 4–10 months; the rate is set in the call on grants.at, extensions are not possible and the rate cannot be raised, e.g. for family.
- OeAD says it may not cover all costs: plan own funds for health insurance, rent, visa and travel.
- The Austrian residence authority may ask for proof of funds, e.g. if rent exceeds EUR 300 a month.
Eligibility
- Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s programme at a university in one of OeAD’s defined countries of origin (non-European universities); Bachelor’s students need at least 4 completed semesters.
- No older than 35.
- Accepted by an Austrian Fachhochschule as an exchange student or free mover before applying.
- Your home university must recognise at least 16 ECTS credits taken in Austria; students who no longer need the courses are ineligible.
- Not eligible: regular students at Austrian universities, permanent residents of Austria, people educated mainly in Austria, or anyone whose stay has already begun.
- Sufficient English in your subject; no test certificate needed.
