Erasmus+ study mobility is how students enrolled at Sapienza University of Rome spend part of their degree at one of its 650+ partner universities across Europe. The Erasmus+ (EU) Unit runs one call a year, with roughly 2,000 places.
Stays last 2 to 12 months and the exams passed abroad count toward the Sapienza degree. PhD students can also take short stays of 5 to 30 days.
Benefits & funding
- EU grant per month: €400 (Group 1 countries, Switzerland, UK) or €350 (Group 2), plus a travel lump sum of €28–1,735 by distance.
- Sapienza/MUR top-up of €200–500 a month by ISEE or fee bracket, if credit and enrolment conditions are met; the unit cites €350–800 a month on average in all.
- €250 a month extra for disability or chronic illness; PhD short stays pay €79 or €56 a day.
- No tuition at the host; visa, insurance and entry costs are not refunded.
- Not combinable with other EU grants; money is reclaimed through PagoPA when conditions are not met.
Eligibility
- Enrolled at Sapienza and up to date with fees.
- At least 6 CFU earned by the call deadline; PhD students need no minimum.
- Language level at least A2 (CEFR), by certificate or a Sapienza language centre (CLA) test; medical courses may need the host’s level at application.
- At most 12 Erasmus months per study cycle.
- No nationality bar; non-EU students handle their own visas.
