The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's Programme in Imaging is a 120-ECTS programme run by Tampere University, Politecnico di Milano and Mid Sweden University. It trains students in multidimensional image and video processing, visual artificial intelligence, machine learning and deep learning.

Students follow one of three tracks and complete compulsory physical mobility across at least two countries. The 2026 intake had two application rounds, both of which are now closed.

Benefits & funding

  • The programme offers about 15 Erasmus Mundus scholarships per year.
  • Scholarship recipients pay no tuition and receive €1,400 per month for up to 24 months.
  • The scholarship contributes to participation costs, medical insurance, living costs, travel and installation.
  • Self-funded tuition is €2,000 per year for EU citizens and €8,000 per year for non-EU citizens.
  • There is no application fee for the consortium application, although individual universities may charge fees in some routes.

Eligibility

  • Applicants need a bachelor's degree in information and communication technologies, computer engineering, electrical engineering or a related field; final-year bachelor's students may apply conditionally.
  • Prior study must include at least 30 ECTS in mathematics or applied mathematics, covering probability and statistics and linear algebra.
  • Prior study must also include 60 ECTS in computer engineering or equivalent, including object-oriented programming and either databases or signal and image processing.
  • English proof must meet one of the published thresholds: TOEFL CBT 210, iBT 78, PBT 547, TOEFL ITP Plus for China 543, IELTS Academic 6, or Cambridge CPE or CAE at grade C. A specified English-medium education exemption applies only to qualifications from the listed countries.
  • The first 2026 round did not publish a nationality or residence restriction. The second round was limited to EU, EEA or Swiss citizens and applicants who already had the right to reside and study in the partner countries without a new study residence permit.
  • Applicants who previously received another EMJM scholarship cannot apply for this scholarship.

Application process

    Apply to the full programme through the consortium portal during an application period and state track preferences.

    Upload passport or identity document, a curriculum vitae of no more than two pages, a motivation letter of no more than 2,000 characters, degree documents, transcripts, one recommendation letter and English-language evidence; each file must be under 2 MB.

    Indicate whether the application should also be considered for the Erasmus Mundus scholarship and, if unsuccessful for funding, for a self-funded place.

    If shortlisted, complete any instructed Politecnico di Milano application and attend an online interview.

    Await the main-list, reserve-list or non-selected decision by email; selected applicants accept the offer within two weeks and sign a student agreement.
