Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in International Vaccinology (LIVE)

Benefits & funding

• Full Erasmus Mundus scholarship (SHIC): institutional costs plus a monthly allowance of €1,400 paid to the student — up to 24 months entering at M1, up to 12 months entering at M2.
• Partial Erasmus Mundus scholarship (IC): institutional costs paid to the universities; living costs stay with the student. Open to any nationality.
• 120 EU-funded students over 2024–2030: 40 on partial IC scholarships and 80 on full SHIC scholarships.
• Extra full scholarships are reserved for nationals of third countries not associated to the Erasmus+ Programme, with the poorest and least developed countries targeted.
• Up to €60,000 towards documented disability-related needs.
• Self-funded route: institutional costs of €9,000 a year for non-EU students, €4,500 a year for EU students after a 50% waiver, with a non-refundable pre-registration fee of €1,800 counting as 20% of the first year.
• Other financing the consortium lists: Erasmus mobility grants of €300–550 a month from semester 2, an Erasmus guarantee for bank loans up to €18,000, and an internship allowance of up to €7,000 over six months.
• The internship semester can be done anywhere in the world; students also take French, Spanish or both alongside the English-taught curriculum.

Eligibility

• Entry at M1: a bachelor degree of at least three years of higher education (at least 180 ECTS for European graduates) covering cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology-virology, physiology and immunology.
• Direct entry at M2: at least four years of higher education (at least 240 ECTS) at advanced master level in immunology, immunopathology and infectiology.
• English at C1 level: IELTS mean 6.5 or above with every section above 5.5, TOEFL iBT 4.5/6 on the band scale in use from January 2026, or a certificate of six months or more of university study conducted in English.
• Open to applicants of any nationality in application Period 1. Period 2 is restricted to applicants who need no visa for the Schengen area and who fund themselves.
• The consortium looks for biochemists, bioengineers, biologists, clinicians, pharmacists and veterinarians.
• A valid passport copy, diplomas and transcripts are required, with notarised English translations of any document not in English. Visa costs are the student’s own.
• Anyone who has already held an EMJM, Erasmus Mundus master or Erasmus Mundus joint doctorate scholarship cannot receive a new European scholarship.

Application process

   Create an account on the MyLIVE platform at mylive.univ-lyon1.fr.

   Complete personal information: name, contact details, languages and nationality.

   Enter qualifications and experience: academic titles, English proficiency and employment history.

   Write the statement of 2,000 to 4,500 characters and complete the biology prerequisite questionnaire.

   Add supporting information: referees, profile type, diplomas, transcripts, passport and how you plan to finance the studies.

   Submit before the deadline; referees then upload their recommendations in the following days.

   Two independent reviewers score the file; the pre-selection list is capped at three times the number of seats.

   Pre-selected candidates sit a 15-minute remote video interview; results are published as a main list, a wait list and a reserve list.
