EMJM PHID is a two-year, 120 ECTS EU-sponsored joint master, taught in English and coordinated by the Universidad de Oviedo with Karolinska Institutet and the University of Nicosia.

Students spend semester one in Oviedo on disaster fundamentals, semester two in Stockholm on the public health response, and semester three in Nicosia on epidemiology and research; the fourth-semester thesis is written at a partner or associated institution.

Benefits & funding

  • Erasmus Mundus scholarship: €1,400 a month for up to 24 months; the number of scholarships is set each year.
  • Scholars must enrol full time and hold no other EU grant for the course.
  • Self-funded fees: €9,000 (Programme Country) or €18,000 (Partner Country) for the full programme, paid in two halves.
  • 25 full fee waivers across four intakes cover tuition, insurance and mandatory costs.

Eligibility

  • Open to candidates of any nationality.
  • A Bachelor’s of at least three years and 180 ECTS from a recognised institution; health, management, law, social or technical sciences and other profiles are considered.
  • English at C1: IELTS 6.5 (6.5 writing, 6.0 elsewhere), TOEFL iBT 79 (20 writing) or paper TOEFL 550; some native speakers are exempt.
  • Applicants with several nationalities apply under one.
  • Nationality, or more than 12 months’ residence in the past five years, sets Programme or Partner Country status and the fee; the site’s two country lists differ (e.g. UK, Serbia).

    Apply online by 31 December 2026 with scanned documents, including a motivation letter of at most 250 words and at least two signed, stamped reference letters in English.

    Mark in the form whether you want Erasmus Mundus scholarship consideration (Category A Partner or Category B Programme Country).

    Top-ranked candidates sit an interview in English, possibly by videoconference.

    Results arrive by email around 15–31 March; admitted students then post certified hard copies.
