English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) Advisor Scholarship

FellowshipTaiwan

Foundation for Scholarly Exchange (Fulbright Taiwan)

Application Deadline

Rolling admission

The Foundation for Scholarly Exchange (Fulbright Taiwan) runs this specialist teacher-trainer scholarship. Advisors spend 6 or 11 months consulting for Taiwanese instructors and professors who teach in English-medium (EMI) university programmes, and supervise the English Teaching Flagship assistants supporting their students.

The work covers August training, about four weekday workshops a semester rotating between sites, feedback on grantees’ reflective reports, classroom observations and forums. Advisors check in at a base office three days a week.

Benefits & funding

  • Monthly stipend of NT$65,000–90,000, depending on qualifications.
  • Round-trip airfare for grantees not living in Taiwan, plus a NT$36,000 settling-in allowance in the first month.
  • National Health Insurance.
  • Business travel between sites reimbursed, with hotels up to NT$3,000 a night.
  • 11 months (1 Aug–30 Jun) or 6 months (1 Aug–31 Jan or 1 Jan–30 Jun); renewal may be considered with Selection Committee approval.

Eligibility

  • U.S. citizens only, native or fluent in English.
  • Master’s route: a master’s degree, currently teaching or researching in EMI or international-student programmes in any country, for two years or more.
  • PhD route: a PhD, two or more years in EMI or international-student teaching, and at least two years at assistant-professor rank (or equivalent) or higher, affiliated with a university or research institution in Taiwan or another English-speaking country.
  • Any discipline; advisors with a TESOL or education background also supervise some ETF and ETA grantees in K-12 schools.
