Edith Hannigan McHale Scholarship — Bachelor's Scholarship

The Edith Hannigan McHale Scholarship is an annual award administered by IEEE Women in Engineering and supported by the Edith Hannigan McHale Scholarship Fund of the IEEE Foundation. It is for seniors at John Adams High School in Ozone Park, New York, who have been accepted by an accredited four-year college or university.

Recipients must enter engineering, including computer science, physics, or mathematics. The 2026 cycle is closed, and IEEE says submissions will reopen in 2027.

Benefits & funding

IEEE may select one or two recipients each year.
If two qualified recipients are selected, each receives US$2,500.
If one qualified recipient is selected, that person receives US$5,000.

Eligibility

Be a senior attending John Adams High School in Ozone Park, New York, USA.
Be accepted by an accredited four-year college or university.
Designate engineering, including computer science, physics, or mathematics as the intended major or program of study.
Hold a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Apply through self-nomination or nomination by another person.
